AFO is a composite carbon graphite orthosis
with a lateral strut,
posterior to the ankle, a footplate that
can be trimmed,
a posterior calf shell, shell pad and circumferential
strap.
Indications
drop
foot possibly involving loss of the
function of the ankle dorsiflexors
are: CVA (Cerebral
Vascular Accident or Stroke),
hernia, multiple sclerosis, Charcot-Marie-Tooth,
post-polio syndrome, muscular dystrophy,
spinal
cord injury, polyneuropathy or other neurological conditions
Contra-indications
loss
or lack of control of the calf muscles,
severe spasticity,
fluctuating edema, extreme pes equinus,
severe ankle or foot deformity
